Marketing Tip: Don’t Treat Your Business Like A Hobby
So you’ve made the decision. You are going to work from home. You are excited. You can see the future and it’s you, on the beach, with a laptop, cheerily answering your cell phone and doing business with a MaiTai in one hand. Ahhh…. What a life it’s going to be.
Now you are two weeks into your new lifestyle, and you sit in your home at the kitchen table, kids crawling on you and the dishes from dinner have been pushed to one side. You go upstairs to get the kids ready for bed. “Tomorrow I will make that video” you think to yourself.
Tomorrow is here, the sun is shining, and the kids are at school. “Ahhh…today I am going to get so much done” you smile as you sit down to produce some content, or call some leads. Wait….I really should throw in that load of laundry. Now it’s 30 minutes later and you finally settle in. After about an hour, you feel like you need to stretch, so you walk outside. Hey, there’s your neighbor you’ve been meaning to track down for her awesome chili recipe. Over at her house, you look at your watch and say “Wow, I’d better get going before the kids get home”. So you go home, sit down in front of your computer, and….finally! You begin writing that article.
It’s going so well, and you feell so great about your life and how this is all going to work out just great, when……the door flies open and the kids are once again all over you telling you about their day. So you stop what you are doing and think “I can finish this later after they go to bed”……What is happening here? Watch while I explain.
Please leave a comment and let me know if you ever dealt with this problem and how did you solve it? I’d love to hear your suggestions.
