If you are making the change from a job that you commute to every day, you may find yourself feeling very excited and free in the beginning. Make no mistake, though. This is a home-business and will take 100% commitment and a willingness to stick with it when things get bumpy, and they do from time to time (ask me sometime how smoothly this blog set-up went!). You are no longer trading hours for dollars here, and you must see beyond the “weekly paycheck” mentality. Even if you make more here than at your previous job, you must know that you will not make the same amount every week. There are many people who will say, even promise, anything, to get your credit card information. They prey on newcomers who have big hopes or are in a desperate situation. Do not be fooled by guarantees of automated systems and hype about how you can succeed with very little effort. Not True! Don’t ever lose sight that this is a business just like any building you see on “Main Street”, and it requires that you stay focused on the long term while accomplishing daily goals at the same time. I wouldn’t say this job isn’t hard at times, but it is also really fun, and gratifying to know that I am the owner of my own business – as well as helping others achieve their goals as well.

I have seen a growing trend lately of people who call themselves “guru’s”. And they are admired by many and have “followers”. The definition of a guru, however, in addition to being a spiritual leader, is one who councels, advises, or mentors. A guru is also defined as a leader in a particular field. My take on this would be that I guess all network marketers are gurus…even the little guy who is just starting out. If you offer advice, you are a guru. It kind of waters down the meaning, don’t you think? I do not see myself as a guru. I do not want to be admired, or followed, or held up to such a standard that as soon as I put my foot in my mouth one time (which I probably will at some point), I will then be knocked back down to size. Some think they want to work with a guru because it will increase their odds of success. Let me tell you something. I work with a very well known man who is a top earner for Global Resorts Network. He will tell you that, while he has a high rate of successful students, there are still alot of duds on his team who do not produce. The bottom line is that you will control your level of success. Sure, must find someone you are comfortable with. Someone who you like and trust, and believe to be honorable and truthful. But then its all you. Sign up, get the training, do your very best, have some success, and all the while keep finding other people to learn from. You will be responsible for most of the success you see. If you are determined to work with a “name brand” marketer, just remember, the bigger the star, the less available they are (Yea, I know it’s a cheesy rhyme, but it’s all I got right now). Find someone who has time for YOU.
This Is A New Generation Of Network Marketing.
I can remember back in the 90’s, being a representative for a particular skin care line. At that time, I was not only required to “make a list of friends and family” to call (Just thinking about it makes me want to gag!), but get this…I was also instructed to invite them to a demonstration and NOT tell them anything about the company – no naming it or describing what it was I was offering – just ask them to come over and tell them I had a great business opportunity to show them. Guess how many people came? Exactly one. My sponsor. Oh how things have changed!
Today’s network marketers know that they hold the key to their own personal happiness and it is more and more apparent that helping others will bring us what we seek. Strategies today are the exact opposite of past years. No longer is the element of suspense a good thing. Today we want to share everything, which we understand builds trust, which forms business relationships. A novel concept, right? We are a fun group, very diverse in age, background, religious and political beliefs – and there is a level of respect out there for others who are following the same path.

In the past couple of years that I have been marketing full time, there has been a complete paridi0gm shift in how we networkers connect with others who either are on the same path – or wanting to get on that path, too. For me, it is Twitter and Facebook, and You Tube. There are many other social outlets I will share with you as we go along, but these are my main source of connection to really brilliant, funny, interesting people and it is a primary factor why marketers no longer have to chase people down to get them to join as a partner, or even listen to an idea. This brand new way of reaching out and offering services now has people calling me to chat, and it is such a great feeling. Once you experience it, you’ll understand.
